Paint, Brush – Rejoice, Landlord!

On August 9, 2024, the Draškovič Manor House in Čachtice hosted the event “Paint, Brush – Rejoice, Landlord!”, designed for children from the summer camp of the Piešťany Municipal Library.

The young visitors were welcomed by museum educator and ethnologist Mgr. Filip Obertáš, who guided them through the manor and introduced them to the early history of Čachtice, the ethnic (Roma) and confessional (Habán) groups in the village, the collection of paintings of the Ilešházi family, and the story of Elizabeth Báthory and Palatine Juraj Thurzo.

The event continued in the educational room, where children were invited to draw a nobleman—either based on a model (historical medallions or paintings) or from their own imagination. The best drawings were awarded interesting prizes. Many children chose to draw Palatine Thurzo, whom they had never heard of before. Through Mgr. Filip Obertáš, they learned many fascinating facts about him.

The event was part of the project “Revitalization of the Draškovič Manor House in Čachtice”, funded by the EEA and Norway Grants and co-financed by the State Budget of the Slovak Republic, the Trenčín Self-Governing Region, and the Trenčín Museum.
