Draškovič Manor House in Čachtice to Host Concert and More!
In the newly renovated Draškovič Manor in Čachtice we have organized an exciting event for you, taking place on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at 2:00 p.m.
Are you interested in learning about the fact when Roma people started living in Slovakia, where they originally came from, or how Slovak and Romani languages are similar? Then don’t miss the lecture “Roma – Our Ancient Relatives,” filled with fascinating information presented by museum educator and ethnologist Mgr. Filip Obertáš from the Trenčín Museum in Trenčín..
In this lecture, you will also discover whether we share common ancestors with the Roma and learn about the plans Empress Maria Theresa once had for the Roma people.
The goal of this lecture is to dismantle or reduce the negative dichotomy of “us and them”, which fosters xenophobia and other divisions in the coexistence of the Roma and Slovaks. We also aim to demonstrate that the formation of Slovak culture was influenced not only by Slovaks but also by the Roma and other ethnic groups living in Slovakia.
Following the lecture, the Roma music group Romano Jilo (Gypsy Heart) will perform, singing and playing traditional Roma songs, accompanied by the expressive movements of traditional Roma choreography.
The program begins at 2:00 PM in the gallery of the Draškovič Manor in Čachtice.
Entry is FREE.
This event is part of the "Revitalization of Draškovič Manor in Čachtice" project, funded by EEA and Norway Grants and co-financed by the state budget of the Slovak Republic, the Trenčín Self-Governing Region, and the Trenčín Museum in Trenčín.
You are all warmly welcome!
